Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

Dr. Kevin Abankwa is committed to a website that works for everyone, including visitors who use a keyboard instead of a mouse, screen readers, or other assistive technology. Accessibility was part of how this site was built, not an afterthought bolted on later.

Conformance target

This site aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the widely used standard for web accessibility. That's a target we continue to measure against, not a claim of perfect, permanent conformance.

What's already in place

• A visible "Skip to content" link at the top of every page, for keyboard and screen-reader users to bypass the header.
• Keyboard support throughout: every link, button, form field, and the Speaker Bio Kit and Cookie Preferences popups can be reached and used without a mouse.
• Popups trap focus while open, mark the rest of the page as inert so you can't tab into it by accident, close on Escape, and return focus to whatever opened them.
• Visible focus outlines on every interactive element, in a color with enough contrast against its background.
• Descriptive alt text on meaningful images, and decorative graphics marked so screen readers skip them.
• Semantic HTML and a logical heading structure, so the page's outline makes sense when read by assistive technology.
• Respect for prefers-reduced-motion: visitors who have asked their system to limit motion get little to no animation.
• Text and background colors checked for contrast against WCAG AA's 4.5:1 (body text) and 3:1 (large text) thresholds.

Known limitations

A few things sit outside this site's direct control. Google Fonts and any embedded third-party content (for example, a future embedded social post) follow their own provider's accessibility practices, not this site's code. Some older book-cover images predate a full accessibility pass and are being reviewed.
